For me, studying Spanish and French at A level has been an eye-opening experience. At times, it can be challenging as the level of language we encounter is at a much higher level than GCSE. However, the teaching staff guide us through in a way which makes the classroom a fun and welcoming space.
It was a big decision to choose to study two languages as they are both such demanding subjects, however I have no regrets as these subjects complement each other really well as the skills are transferable and the exams are the exact same format. Overall, attending Godalming College is as much a social experience as well as an academic one. I have found that there are always people around to work together during free periods which makes the college workload feel much more manageable. I went to quite a large secondary school so I didn’t have many issues transitioning to a big college and I think that being confident to talk to people in and out of lessons made making friends quite easy. However, the college provides lots of enrichment activities and leisure clubs which are beneficial for making connections with people who you have something in common with, which helps facilitate a steady transition from secondary to college education.
Next year, I hope to continue my studies of modern foreign languages at university.
